On June 2, 2026, Excel Management Limited Partnership pleaded guilty as prime contractor to an Alberta occupational-safety offence after a formwork cage fell and seriously injured a worker at a Calgary residential development on December 16, 2023; it was fined $125,000, while all charges against Excel Homes Limited Partnership and Excel G.P. Ltd. were withdrawn.

A November 6, 2019 proposed class action reported in February 2020 alleged that Excel-built homes in Cochrane’s Heartland neighbourhood had construction, water-intrusion and mould problems and that mould contributed to a resident’s death; the allegations had not been proven, and Excel said the claim appeared without merit and that it was preparing a defence.
LEGAL Claim filed November 6, 2019; reported February 6, 2020; status in the retrieved evidence is unresolved/uncertain as of October 11, 2026.
Heartland, Cochrane: a proposed $11 million class action against Excel Homes Limited Partnership alleged negligent construction, basement leakage and mould contributed to a resident’s death and left the lead plaintiffs’ home’s water problems unresolved; the allegations were not proven in court and Excel said the claim appeared meritless.
